| Here's a few tips for each species, think of it as a little tutorial mainly for those to read before playing it. A lot of people seems to be overwhelmed and confused when first jumping in and then tend to garner hate for the game due to this but trust me, if you stick with it and get to grips with each species you might just find one of the most refreshing, original, atmospheric multiplayer FPS games available...well, assuming the demo isn't far from the full experience. AlienPros - *Greatest movement speed shortens gaps between foes and allows for quick evasion*All areas of the map are accessible *Strong at short range with longest strong attack reach *Good for surprise attacks and overall stealth with always active alien vision. *Health gradually regenerates. *Acid Blood can harm foes afterdeath.Cons - *Can be a little disorientating *Trophy Kills easier to counter*Useless at long range*Medium health *Longest downtime after being countered. The aliens strengths are it's speed and dexterity, don't just stick to the floor and remember that the environment seems a lot brighter than it is for the marine so use the darkness to your advantage. You can disable certain lights scattered around the environment, just approach and aim at a light and tap heavy attack (tail) you will smash out the bulb and bathe the section in darkness. Sprinting is a vital key to success as it can close a gap very fast and get out of dangerous situations. Alternatively the marine relies a lot on his motion tracker, so another good tactic is to lie in the shadows and let him come to you. When the aiming reticule for the alien expands slightly it means that you will jump and transition to that spot, it can be a little disorientating so I recommend having the "auto centre camera" option on, this also helps with fast combat situations. Like the predator the Alien can also use focus jump to pounce on enemies, hold down the trigger (if controls are similar to 360) and when a green circle appears over the target jump and you will home in and swipe at them, normally a pounce attack followed by a quick attack will down a marine, it's a good one two punch. MarinePros - *Motion Sensor*Greater variety of weapons each with secondary action *Default equipped Pulse rifle is fast firing, has a 99 round clip and underslung grenade launcher *Stim packs restore full health quickly *Shotgun with counter-attack is a dealy combo *Auto-Targeting Smartgun lethal in open areas Cons - *Open to surprise attacks from static enemies *Darkness is an enemy in itself *Least health*No heavy attack *Hard to spot cloaked predators *Cannot evade or perform Trophy/Stealth kills *Smartgun is hard to reach*Pulse rifle has large muzzle flash. Your best bet as a marine is to find an open area with the most range, the biggest tool at hand is the motion tracker and it can save your life but don't solely rely on it, like above the predator and alien will take advantage of this luring you round corners so pay attention to close range blips that suddenly disappear. Remember that you have a pulse rifle not an M4 so there's a good 100 rounds in each magazine, don't worry about burst fire, if you see something don't stop shooting. Look for yellow weapon icons as these fund your grenade launcher secondary fire, the shoguns alternate fire also empties both barrels and is devastating at close range..It's mid-long range is extremely poor though even at just over 10 feet so only use it in corridors. The smartgun can be found in the big ramp room with rafters above, it's usually next to the blue energy source up the ramps on the backwall, it comes with a motion sensing mode but takes up both weapon slots, keep an eye on it's ammo as it takes an age to respawn. When it comes to melee attacks with the marine he usually doesn't fair well having the least health and no heavy attack, that being said blocking the first light attack and quickly following up with your own knocks an alien on his ass and a predator back a good 3-4 feet leaving them stunned and open for some pulse payback, beware of some acid blood splashing in your eyes and walking over freshly slugged xenomorphs. The marine doesn't rely on regenerative health so after an encounter be sure to use a stim pack by holding Y/Triangle, also don't forget about the predator in all this alien slaying, that blip on the radar could be someone above you, or he could be sprinting right towards you. PredatorPros - *Good at short range with faster strong attack *Cloaking allows near invisibilty against marines*Trophy kills hard to counter *Focus jump provides a quick and precise way to move around ledges*Vision modes to spot enemies clearly and at distance *Abilty to zoom with any weapons *Powerful weapons for all ranges *Largest health with abilty to restore it fullyCons - *Melee attacks have shorter reach*Cloak deactivates after hostile actions and is ineffective vs aliens *Trophy kills take slightly longer to complete *Some ledges purposefully too high for focus jumps *Using one vision mode makes opposite species harder to spot *Spawning with no weapons requires scanvenging to be effective *Weapons are slow firing and ammo shared by power bar*Nodes to restore power are in open areas and leave you defenceless while draining. Probably the species with the highest learning curve but the most balanced fighter, predators are decent melee fighters able to go toe to toe with an alien and with the right weapons deadly mid-long range. The weapons take a lot more skill and risk to use adding to the fact you have to scavenge for them when you spawn, they are red triangular icons. Don't forget that when you spawn tap triangle/Y to activate your cloak (holding this button heals you aswell), the cloak will deactivate when you perform a hostile action like meleeing, firing a weapon and being attacked so after fights make sure to tap it again. The cloak may make you almost invisible to a marines sight but not to his motion tracker, also aliens can still see you clear as day so don't try hiding round corners to ambush them, cloaking costs no energy to use. Focus jump is an essential mechanic for moving up and around, by holding down the focus trigger you will see a projected icon in front of you, as long as there isn't a cross attached you can jump up or across to that position, it can also allow a pounce attack too but unlike the alien to trigger it you press the attack buttons instead of jump otherwise you will jump to your marker not the lock on symbol. Being in control of your vision modes is vital, the first being heat vision for marines and predators, the second alien vision, it also amplifies sound, beware of course when using each as the other species is almost invisible unless moving in plain lit sight. Some of the predators weapons require you to hold focus mode to lock onto a enemies, also be sure to charge plasma cannon shots for greater damage but beware although you may remain cloaked until firing the shot your targeting beam gives away your position. Last but not least when low on energy look for blue power nodes, these are displayed on the hud usually as green circles when in proximity, holding down the action button will drain them, aliens can also smash these though to sabotage you so a red blinking node needs time to repair itself. Close Range Combat/ Melee System A quick video guide from SEGA...When it comes to meleeing you have 4 moves, light attack, heavy attack, focus attack and block (holding both attack buttons). Light attacks are quick but can be blocked and if countered sometimes leave you open for a trophy kill, heavy attacks break through an opponents block and do a lot more damage. Heavy attacks can be countered by light attacking and depending on when the enemy is hit, it can also open them up for a trophy kill. Focus attacks can close a gap between an enemy and knock them off walls but like light attacks can be blocked and countered. Trophy/Stealth Kills You may have noticed me mentioning them in the melee section of the guide, well to perform them you have to hold down the interact button in certain circumstances, these will present themselves with an onscreen prompt when available. For Stealth Kills you simply need to get behind your opponent, easy enough if you pick the right moment to strike, these to my knowledge are never escapable however they also leave the killer open to both attacks and getting stealth killed aswell..It's quite funny seeing a stealth kill conga-line. Prompts for Trophy Kills come up when knocking back an opponent usually after countering a light attack but alien pounce attacks and heavy attacks can sometimes do this swell. Trophy kills are more difficult than Stealth Kills not only to open up a window in combat to perform but also to finish, aliens and predators can escape from TK's by hitting block before a certain time and it's easier to escape from an aliens than a predators. Some weapons also down or stun enemies for a short time opening up that window, a close grenade from a marines pulse rifle or a slightly off target shoulder-cannon blast. Although impressive and extremely satisfying to perform either, they both take quite some time to finish leaving you open to attacks from observers. However in the full game, performing these in ranked matches give you bonus XP, so there is a risk reward system to accompany the sheer coolness of these maneuvers. I've probably missed quite a few key things but it's just there as a quick starting guide, if I'm wrong in some areas or you know good tactics then feel free to call me out and add to them. | |
